PNG Shell & Pearl Earrings

Old spondylus shell fragments from Papua New Guinea are the focus of these earrings. Originally these fragments were overlocked together in a fabulous neck or torso ornament. The Papuans often adorned themselves, particularly for ritual or ceremony, and these shell items were an integral part of much tribal embellishment. Presented here in these striking drop earrings, hand worked shell is reticulated with fine pearl centres and hang delicately from a fine Japanese akoya pearl post.
